MLA: Doug Routley - Nanaimo-North Cowichan

Father, We thank You for the vision, tenacity and pursuit for honest government that is in MLA: Doug Routley's heart.  We ask that You would grant him fresh eyes to see and ears to hear what is on Your heart and Your agenda.  We also ask that You would surround him with wise counselors and those that have a right spirit and that together they would move forward and witness those positive changes in British Columbia that You desire. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Doug Routley was elected as the MLA for Nanaimo-North Cowichan on May 12, 2009. He served as MLA for Cowichan-Ladysmith from May 17, 2005 until the riding boundaries were re-drawn.

Doug serves as opposition critic for Citizens’ Services and Open Government and is deputy Health critic.

Doug was born May 9, 1961 in New Westminster, BC and grew up in Duncan.

He comes from a family of educators and attended the public schools of the Cowichan Valley and attended Camosun College before traveling to Japan, where he lived and worked for one year.

Doug has experience in logging, as a sawmill worker, treeplanter and in construction. He also has been a business owner and operator, school custodian and School Trustee.

While in Japan, Doug taught English and studied Sumea, traditional Japanese ink painting. He was a bicycle racer and while training in Japan, met a bicycle manufacturer. After his return to Canada, Doug established a bicycle retail and wholesale company which had dealers throughout Canada and the USA.

Doug has two daughters, Sasha and Madeline.
